So on 4th July we will ‘go to the polls’ and elect a new government. It has been noticeable from our conversations with both clients and candidates that leading up to Rishi Sunak’s surprise election announcement there has been a distinct ‘pause’ in the recruitment market. Regardless of your political persuasion, once the outcome is known we can expect employers to resume their recruitment plans as the one thing businesses hate is uncertainty.
That said, we have had a fairly stagnant economy over the last few years and whatever government we end up with will hopefully prioritize achieving economic growth which will benefit us all – fingers crossed!
As recruiters, we still see skills shortages in certain sectors and this will become much more evident with any upturn in demand. Ultimately the availability of a skilled and motivated workforce will be essential in contributing to any improvement in the economy.
If the expected outcome materializes we can also expect a shift in the legislative agenda but that will reveal itself over the coming months so watch this space….
